Using rivets on plastic, composite, or other non-metal materials requires additional care. These materials, often softer, may not provide sufficient resistance for the proper expansion of the rivet body.
If a targeted selection is not made, the typical result is a mandrel pulling completely through the material or a very weak clamping force. However, there are rivets specifically designed for plastics and special materials, featuring dedicated body geometries and enlarged bearing areas.
Before opting for a standard rivet, it is advisable to carry out sample tests and, if necessary, consider alternative solutions such as large-head rivets, specific inserts, or dedicated fastening systems.
